GCC Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) is the electricity authority that owns, operates, controls, and maintains the 400 kV interconnection linking the electricity networks of six GCC countries; Kuwait, Bahrain, KSA, Qatar, UAE, and Oman. GCCIA facilitates energy back-up in emergency situations for any of the Member States through the interconnector without adverse effects on the other Member Status.

PPI is currently providing services to GCCIA to setup and validate the network model, review previous operational studies and conduct operational studies for the year 2021-22.The results and recommendations of these operational studies would help GCCIA to operate the interconnected system in a stable and secure manner.

The major tasks of this study are as under:

  1. Network model setup and validation from GCCIA and the Member States.
  2. Routine Operational Studies including:
    • Steady-State Security Assessment and Calculation of Net Transfer Capacity.
    • Maximum Power Transfer and Dynamic Security Assessment.
    • System Protection and Analysis.
    • Assessment of Spinning Reserve.
  3. Small Signal Stability Analysis.
  4. Accelerated Fleet Changes.
  5. Voltage and Reactive Power Management Study.
